The Study of Play

Professors Michael Call and Brian Croxall have introduced a new initiative at BYU to provide humanities perspectives to video games. “Every week, you have professors who are trained in literary studies, philosophy, the visual arts, or film bringing some of those terms, techniques, and theorization to video games,” says Call. “It’s an exciting interdisciplinary moment for us.” Supported by the College of Humanities, students attend Monday lectures and play games like Stardew Valley and Minecraft.
