When BYU economics professor Joseph Price first explored his ancestry, he searched for 20 hours and concluded that his tree must be “all done.” Then he found a name—“a son that had been missed.” He took that name to the temple the same day and performed all the ordinances. “It just changed me,” he recalls. And now Price is changing how we do family history research. In his Record Linking Lab at BYU, undergrads use advanced technology to hasten family history research and contribute to academic studies; they have already added 50 million people to the tree. An interdisciplinary BYU research team, concerned about the health impact on residents, particularly brickworkers, recently evaluated the respiratory health of the region’s residents. The College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta, Georgia, recently kicked off Black History Month with a newly installed exhibit honoring members of the Wyoming Black 14. Along with the new exhibit, BYU’s School of Communications was invited to show its documentary “The Black 14: Healing Hearts and Feeding Souls.” The film was screened in front of a packed audience and was followed by a panel discussion featuring Black 14 members Tony McGee, John Griffin, and Mel Hamilton. Last year Y Magazine podcast host Whitney Archibald fell 30 feet while rock climbing in Provo’s Rock Canyon. Miraculously, she landed in the only Whitney-shaped clearing below—just inches from rocks. No. 25 BYU men’s basketball made the most of its second matchup with Baylor this season as it secured 16 offensive rebounds for 20 second-chance points and beat the No. 11 Bears 78-71 on Tuesday night at the Marriott Center. The win gives the Cougars their first-ever regular season with wins over three different ranked opponents. Watch a cinematic recap of the victory.
