2019 NCAA 10K Champion Clayton Young
“Last year, the BYU boys got rocked,” says Clayton Young (above) of the 2018 NCAA Championship 10K, where he came in second-to-last place. This year, however, three of BYU’s 10K racers redeemed themselves by finishing in the top four. As Young surged ahead of the pack to win, Coach Ed Eyestone navigated the crowd in the stands to celebrate with his team at the finish line. President Kevin J Worthen was interviewed on Chinese television as members of eight BYU groups performed their way across China. Using makeshift props from Ikea (replacing equipment that got lost during travel), these students were able to persevere and share a celebration of culture with the people of China. In November 2018 BYU grad Brent Taylor, mayor of North Ogden, was killed during his fourth deployment to Afghanistan. On May 23, 2019, his wife and seven children helped unveil his name on the Memorial Wall in the Reflection Room of the Wilkinson Student Center.
